São Miguel tiled city sidewalks.
The pictures in the Portugal and Azores albums were taken with a Nikon D70s camera and two lenses (Tamron AF 28-75mm f2.8 XR Di Zoom and the Nikon 20mm f2.8 D AF). I also made extensive use of the Nikon SB-800 flash for fill-in light and the ML-L3 remote control. I also traveled with a very lightweight Slik travel tripod.

Town hall or "Camara Municipal". The bell tower dates from 1724 and houses the oldest bell in the Azores. The statue in front of the building is of São Miguel, patron saint of the island. The architecture is typical of many buildings in the city of Ponta Delgada.

In the southeastern part of São Miguel island the small village of Furnas harbors bubbling fumaroles such as the one shown in this picture. The smell of sulfur, and burping mud are constant reminders that you are in the centre of a large crater.

From Ponta Delgada we took several tours including a whale and dolphin watching tour.

Atlantic Common dolphins are very abundant around the Azorean islands. We saw a pod of around 50 dolphins.

Sete Cidades are two lakes within a crater (caldeira) located in the western side of São Miguel island . The closest lake is green and the farthest is blue.
