Kenai Peninsula
Upon our arrival to the Kenai Peninsula we made a stop at Exit Glacier within the Kenai Fjords National Park. It is hard to convey the enormity of glaciers in one photo so I combined two pictures in one showing our approximate location when the picture was taken. The waterstream is made of the continous melting of the ice shield from the Glacier.

Our first wildlife sighting was a sea otter. In the old days, otters were valued for their fur and eskimo hunters traded them to the Russians for glass beads.

Spring is the time of rebirth in Alaska. After a long winter most animals give birth in the early spring. This ewe protects her very young calf from predators such as bears, wolves and golden eagles by seeking shelter in the steep rocky slopes surrounding Resurrection Bay. (This picture was taken from very far away using the Vibration Reduction (VR) feature of the telephoto lens while on a rocking boat).

We enjoyed lunch (those who were not seasick)at Fox Island amid rain and choppy waters. We could not reach Holgate Glacier, located outside of Resurrection Bay, due to stormy weather conditions.

On our way to Soldotna we stopped for a 4 mile hike at the Kenai Refuge. We started at Kelly lake where Renee promptly spotted many birds with her Canon Image Stabilizer (IS) II binoculars.
